JAMB begins sale of forms Jan 10, bans cybercafe operators

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board ( JAMB) has said that it is set to commence sale of the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) form for prospective candidates on January 10, 2019.

The JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, who disclosed this at a meeting with Computer Based Test ( CBT) centre operators in Lagos, also said that about 50 centres had been sanctioned by the board for various infractions and unethical practices.

He said: “Cyber cafes have been banned from registering candidates for the year 2019 examination over allegation of extortion. They were extorting and overcharging candidates, doing services that they do not have capacity to do. They keep on deceiving candidates and we have no way of tracking them because they are not registered. That’s why we banned them.

“We know there will be uproar because these cyber cafes make illegitimate money from candidates but we cannot leave the students at their mercy, particularly when people will say it is JAMB extorting them. Seven hundred and eighteen CBT centres have been registered across the country to handle the registration processes expected to last for six weeks. If you want to do any of our major services, choose any of them.”
The registrar also said the examination body had set up a committee of experts under Prof. Peter Okebukola to come up with an all-inclusive method to be able to bend the rule to suit blind candidates.

Oloyede said only three institutions are yet to comply with the December deadline issued them to complete their admission process.

Dark nights, hot days: You soil our fun and ruin our plays The fridge is warm, the stove is cold Hunger in the house is strong and bold You come and go, you go and come Unsure, unstable, like a dizzy bum A bright surge now, then a yellow candle Our darkest fears you hardly kindle Sweat at work, sweat in the homes In churches and mosques and their towers and domes Factories go without a hum The cost of your darkness is a pretty sum Our books unread, homework undone Though we stay awake till the dark, dark dawn Nepa, oh NEPA Some say you rhyme with 'leper' In your dark we grope And it's hard to cope By Niyi Osundare

Life's like playing a violin

Life is like playing a violin We human beings are violinists, Faced with the chords and odds of life To the melody we make. The bow gives the violin sound when struck, Like the actions we make in life, whether of good or bad. Good grooming makes a violinist play perfectly A good understanding of life helps make the best decisions That brings the best results. The way you handle the violin matters, As way you comport yourself in life. The chances of playing wrongly are reduced, If with a good grip you hold the violin. The chances of drawbacks are reduced in life If mannerly you comport yourself. Famous violinists become famous because they play best. In life you are known by how much you influence others Respect is given to those who positively influence others. Mastery in the violinistic art through diligence, Likewise in life diligence acts as a prerequisite To achieve mastery in what you do.
